Product Description

Deciduous shrub with a fast growth rate. Loose form with many spreading branches and multiple trunks. Spreads by underground rhizomes.  : Fall color is variable. Red stems are especially attractive in winter.

zones:  2 - 8     native to: Eastern and Midwestern North America     size: 3-10' tall by 10'+ wide

Leaves:  color: medium green     fall color: red-purple     size: 2-5"

Flowers:  color: white     season: May-June     size: 1.5-2" (each flower is 0.3")

Fruit:  color: white (showy)     season: Aug-Sept     size: 0.3"

Bark & Wood:  color: dark red (really showy)     texture: smooth    

Uses:  landscaping (massing), hedge or screen, bird habitat, erosion control

Culture:  Grows well in a variety of soil and climatic conditions but grows naturally in wet conditions. Does not perform particularly well in zone 8. Space 2-4' apart if planting a hedge.

Tolerances:  sun, flooding, transplanting, acidic soil, alkaline soil, clay, nutrient poor soil
