Deciduous shrub with a fast growth rate. Loose form with many spreading branches and multiple trunks. Spreads by underground rhizomes. : Fall color is variable. Red stems are especially attractive in winter.

Culture: Grows well in a variety of soil and climatic conditions but grows naturally in wet conditions. Does not perform particularly well in zone 8. Space 2-4' apart if planting a hedge.
