Evergreen conifer tree with a moderate growth rate. Narrow, pyramidal form when young. Conical with descending branches when older. Large, straight trunk. One of the most important timber pines in North America. The most common and widespread pine in North America. It was one of the pines written about by Lewis and Clark while on their western expedition. Wood is light and straight-grained.
