Scotch pine, Scots pine

 

Evergreen conifer tree with a moderate growth rate.  Irregular, pyramidal form with short branches. Becomes open, spreading with age.  Needles will turn red-brown in cold-climate winters but will green again in spring.  Small prickle at the end of each cone scale. Cones take over two years to mature.  Popularly grown for Christmas trees because of nice, compact form
